Rating: Barnsley Bitter saved my lifeDavid Green | Posted: 22 October 2008 Despite not being sold in any of the pubs in Barnsley, Barnsley Bitter is one of South Yorkshires most delicious and accomplished beers. Smooth, toasty and oaty, with a hint of jealousy and backgammon, it was rightfully the pride of Sheffields 2008 beer festival thanks to its role in the unprecedented, last-minute renaissance... as all seemed lost and the final few barrels were declared empty, mournful faces were suddenly bathed in a blindingly metaphorical light as Acorn Brewery unleashed their secret weapon. The results were extraordinary.Barnsley Bitter is evidently beers finest hour and has renewed for one this discerning critics faith in real ale, and, thus, humanity. If you dont believe how good it is, try it. But dont expect to find it in Barnsley. |
